Season 3: ep.12, Richard Gilbert
Portrays the story of a man from the Greatest Generation...a man named Richard L. Gilbert-- a New Yorker who was not only a CCNY graduate but also a returning soldier in the year 1949. Without a job ever since his return, he sought and found one in advertising that totally changed his life and gained him recognition. In a 40-year career Gilbert and his zealous staff of copyrighters, designers, and artists at Gilbert Advertising changed how Americans thought about fur coats, foreign languages, cars, and perfumes, and of course--The Vietnam War. Although it wasn't quite big in area, it was influential beyond its size. From persuading people Renault mended its ways to encouraging the Metropolitan Opera to offer less than full season subscriptions, Gilbert Advertising was the maker of iconic pop culture images that remain fresh and persuasive in years to come.
